Star Kids Initiative’s mission to empower underprivileged children to access quality education is grounded by 4 pillars; Life Skills Development, Scholarship Fund, Infrastructure Support and Advocacy.
1. Life Skills Development- focuses on imparting fundamental 21st-century life skills to children aged 8 to 10 through its Nuru Program and 14- 17 years through its Angaza program. it has impacted 600 children to date.
2. Scholarship Fund –aims is to increase the primary-secondary school transition rates in informal settlements by sponsoring children to public secondary school and offering them mentorship opportunities over the holidays. The fund currently sponsors 10 children.
3. Infrastructure Support – provides schools with the support they need to enhance the quality of children’s learning environment. Infrastructure support offered so far includes refurbishment of the Mukuru Primary School Library, refurbishment of ablution blocks at the Songa Mbele na Masomo Rehabilitation center and provision of handwashing stations to Mukuru Primary School and St. Catherine’s Primary School post-COVID-19. 7000 children have been impacted by these projects to date.
4. Advocacy – amplifies the initiative’s mission with a bid to call relevant stakeholders to action. The initiative’s advocacy efforts include publishing articles on its website, participating in webinars, interviews, conferences and providing a platform for the voices of underprivileged children to be heard.
